Tree of Ancestry

Since ancient times, embroidered and woven ritual towels — rushnyky — have held a sacred place in Ukrainian traditions. Among them, wedding rushnyky were especially significant, symbolizing the path of life, the union of destinies, and the birth of a new family.

The “Tree of Ancestry” collection is inspired by the renowned Krolevets rushnyky, which originated in the town of Krolevets, Sumy region. These sacred textiles became an integral part of wedding traditions in Central and Left-Bank Ukraine. According to custom, a bride was once girded with a rushnyk as a sign of purity, innocence, and readiness to become the guardian of the family line.

Traditional wedding rushnyky featured a white base adorned with red woven or embroidered designs. Their symbolism is deep and timeless:

• Blooming branches and flowers stand for prosperity, renewal, and the flourishing of life.
• Paired birds are age-old symbols of eternal love, harmony, and the continuation of the family.

These powerful symbols lie at the heart of our collection. Wedding gowns, ceremonial dresses, blouses, and linen shirts are adorned with traditional Ukrainian embroidery drawn from ancient patterns.
